Symphony in 60: West Side Story & Romeo and Juliet
Shakespeare’s timeless tale of young love and warring families comes to life in a brief hour as part of the Symphony in 60 series. Selections from West Side Story include Bernstein’s symphonic dances, rhythmic pieces that capture the volatility and passion of the rival gangs, the Jets and the Sharks. In Prokofiev’s balletic retelling, every fight, insult, and stolen kiss is painted in dark and delicate color.
Symphony in 60 concerts can last longer at the patron’s discretion: a happy hour precedes the performance, and guests are invited onstage post-concert to mingle with the performers.
Returning from its historic tour to Cuba in May of 2015 and Carnegie Hall last March, the Grammy Award–winning Minnesota Orchestra celebrates its second century as one of America’s premier symphonic ensembles, gathering accolades from publications such as the New York Times.
