With its catching nets and hard-hitting action, lacrosse is similar to America's national pastime, extreme lepidoptery, though it involves fewer swarms of carnivorous butterflies. The Scouting Report
Last season, the Minnesota Swarm made their first-ever division-finals appearance under new head coach Joe Sullivan, who, despite joining the team halfway through the year, still managed to win the Bartley Award for Coach of the Year. Last year’s Transition Player of the Year, Andrew Suitor, returns to the field to lead the charge against the Washington Stealth in the home opener on January 26 and another home contest against the Toronto Rock on February 8. Last season Andrew led the league with 74 penalty minutes and posted 15 goals in 16 games, using supersonic shots to strike fear into the hearts of opposing goalies and protective concern into the hearts of lacrosse-ball manufacturers.
The Minnesota Swarm made its National Lacrosse League debut in 2005 and has since advanced to the playoffs in all but two seasons, netting its first West Division finals trip in 2012. Dubbed the best overall sports arena in the nation by ESPN in 2004, the Swarm’s home Xcel Energy Center adds advanced media to every game with an above-court scoreboard featuring four video screens to show instant replays and let players check in with their cats at home.
