The University of Kentucky’s Department of Theatre celebrates a century of student performance with its 2011–12 mainstage season, "Rebels Act Out." Produced in conjunction with the University’s Asia Center, The Monkey King: Havoc in Heaven takes audiences of all ages along as China’s mythical primate trickster goes on a tumultuous quest for immortality, power, and the power to realize immortality is a fool's errand. Actors perform alongside puppets, acrobatic dancers, and martial artists to enrapture families with choreographed skirmishes and scuffles under bright stage lights. Inside the Fine Arts Building, the Guignol Theatre concentrates six decades of productions into a 200-seat auditorium, inviting guests to relax in their chairs or don a mask and escape backstage to the sounds of Andrew Lloyd Webber.
