The 2012 Washington AHL Showcase pits two of the AHL's most accomplished teams in recent years against one another in an intense Eastern Conference East Division matchup. The Washington Capitals’ AHL Affiliate team, The Hershey Bears, and Norfolk Admirals have won three of the past four Calder Cup victories, with the Bears taking the title in 2009 and 2010 and the Admirals hoisting the cup in 2012. The Bears' leading defenseman, Garrett Stafford, is currently one of the top players in the league in assists, registering 10 assists in 12 games while helping brittle old ladies cross the rink during intermissions. For Norfolk, center Peter Holland leads a potent offense, posting 14 points in 12 games.
