Murder Ballad: A New Musical
She’s not just the sexy bartender—she’s the sexy narrator. And like all good sexy narrators, she’s got a sordid tale to tell. Staged to blur the gap between audience and cast, Murder Ballad centers around a passionate love affair that takes a turn for the lethal, forcing viewers to become witnesses to a crime. While belting out catchy pop-rock tunes, Sara, a successful uptown Manhattan type, is torn between two lovers. One is Tom, himself a rugged bartender that might be a bit too dangerous for a wedding registry, and the other is Michael, a timid poetry student who’s sweet, but just begging to be cuckolded. Sara thinks she’s made the right choice when she dumps Tom to marry Michael and bear his child, but soon she abandons her family for the bad boy. By the time she realizes her mistake, though, it’s too late: the love triangle implodes and the stage becomes a homicide scene.
