Every year, the DFW Diva Awards Committee honors some of the most accomplished female entrepreneurs, philanthropists, performing artists, and political activists in North Texas. Nominated by poll and selected by public vote, this year's recipients include such familiar faces as platinum-selling Grammy magnet Erykah Badu, who bends genres as easily as a strongman bending a cooked spaghetti noodle by juggling instruments and styles from R&B to jazz to hip-hop. Also receiving honors is Pat Smith, a businesswoman, sometime-host of Access Hollywood, regular host of “Treasure You” on Good Morning Texas, and major sponsor of charitable causes that support underserved women. Other honorees include Dalyse "D'Lyte" Kelley of Key II The City Multimedia, programming coordinator and on-air K104 FM personality Kiki J, and the incomparable DJ Spinderella––Grammy winner and former member of all-female rap crew Salt-N-Pepa.
Along with the audience, all 18 honorees enjoy a throwback to a forgotten time with The 90's R&B Mixtape Tour. Original members Sisqo, Nokio, and Jazz join new recruit Tao to re-form Dru Hill, the mischievous crooners of "It's All About Me" and "How Deep Is Your Love." Silk and Shai offer alternately sweet and spicy approaches to romance in their respective hits "Freak Me" and "If I Ever Fall In Love," and Next dishes up mega hits such as "Too Close."
