Narnia, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe
C.S. Lewis’s masterpiece, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, not only became the starting point for the seven-book Chronicles of Narnia series, it also spawned a blockbuster movie franchise and inspired millions of children to inspect their closets for portals.
The saga begins in the English countryside, where the four Pevensie children have been sent to avoid the Nazi’s bombing of London. While snooping about their uncle’s manor, the youngest, Lucy, climbs inside a wardrobe and finds herself in the enchanted forest of Narnia. What she encounters are animals that talk, fauns with names like Mr. Tumnus, and an evil White Witch who rules a land that is “always winter, but never Christmas.” After Lucy convinces her siblings to follow her through the wardrobe, they soon join forces with Aslan, the titular lion and true lord of Narnia, in the war against the White Witch. Themes of temptation, betrayal, redemption, and old-fashioned good-versus-evil come to life onstage without the pain of overdue library fees.
