Many comics riff on their fear of using the public restroom, but Ian Harvie will tell you how easy they have it. One of the world’s first transgender standup comics, Ian is a masterful storyteller who channels his understated charisma and relatable charm to connect with audience members of all backgrounds. Ian has performed standup on the Logo Network’s OutLaugh Comedy Festival and ABC’s Comics Unleashed, and has hosted his own self-produced talk show from a Los Angeles nightclub since 2007, but these days he seems to be everywhere at once. In addition to headlining his own cross-country tours and working with LGBTQ icons such as Jane Lynch, Alan Cumming, Kimberley Peirce, and Buck Angel, he’s landed the coveted opening slot for Margaret Cho, who describes him as “not just great looking… [but] an awesome comic and a terrific pal.” As if that hasn’t made him ubiquitous enough, he’s also appeared in his first live standup comedy special, Ian Harvie Superhero, and landed the role of Dale on the Golden Globe–winning Amazon Prime series Transparent.
