What You'll Get

There are many classic comedy routines, but none is more lauded than the one in which someone walks toward a banana peel and places it in the garbage. Enjoy throwaway gags with this deal to see an improv-comedy show at National Comedy Theatre in Mesa. For $12, you get two general-admission tickets (up to a $14 value each) and two popcorns (a $2 value each) to any show through April 28 (up to a $32 total value). Doors open 30 minutes before each performance.

The National Comedy Theatre pits its stable of improvisors against each other in competitive battles of wit every Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. Although weekend evening shows are the norm, the schedule sometimes features special events such as The Midnight Show on Saturday, January 26, at 12 a.m. and the Tri-Theatre Comedy Show on Sunday, January 27, at 7:30 p.m. Most shows are for all ages, except for midnight shows, which are for adults 18 and older.

About National Comedy Theatre

Voted the Best Local Performing Arts Troupe by readers of the East Valley Tribune in 2011, National Comedy Theatre’s ensemble of players concocts improvised situations at lightning-fast speeds, relying on audience participation and their own wits to elicit thunderous laughter and applause. After turning to their all-ages crowd for assistance in shaping games and scenarios, the cast employs knowledge gleaned from operating-room sketches to tickle ribs with anatomical exactitude. The show often favors spontaneity over prudence, with performers gleefully stepping into their roles as acrophobic skydiving champions or long-winded court stenographers. Audience members get to select the winning team at the conclusion of the show, and can learn the form themselves during improv classes.
