Female perspectives and collaboration take center stage at New Seeds Festival as performing artists treat audiences to two weekends of music, dance, comedy, and poetry. The first weekend combines the burgeoning soul of a high-school poetry slam with the comedic stylings of Robin Savage, who touches on the nuances of motherhood and life in the Great Recession. Capping off the opening night is Climbing PoeTree, a duo who blows minds with spoken word, hip-hop, and their secret rhyme for "orange." The following weekend brings with it Chicago dramatist Erin Lane, whose one-woman show—Thank You, Future—explores the hard lessons learned during her turbulent, drug-fueled 20s. Then the kinetically choreographed women of Jacksonville Dance serve as a rhythmic opener for Christie Lenée, who brings her shimmering tapping guitar style and soulful singing to the stage.
