NYUL Football Classic
The 42nd annual New York Urban League Football Classic pits the Howard University Bison against the Morgan State University Bears in a battle of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foes. The rivalry between these two teams dates back to 1931, when all colleges had to share the same ball because it was too expensive to make more. Overall, Morgan State holds a 40-26-1 series advantage. The Bison, however, have closed that gap in recent years, including a decisive 28-14 victory last October.
Though the football game is the main attraction on September 20, the NYUL Football Classic’s festivities extend well past the gridiron. Tailgating prior to the game will help pump up the fans, and a street fair-style expo will feature numerous vendors and products. At halftime, both universities will take part in a Battle of the Bands, with the winner being decided by judges or by whichever squad shoots flames from their tubas. Proceeds from the day’s events will go toward scholarships for college-bound students.
