Chamber 2: Timeline: Listening Through History
The Division of Music Theory Director at Oberlin College, Arnie Cox, lends his wisdom to a time-warping selection of chamber music that spans from the Renaissance through contemporary times. Between pieces, Cox stretches the audience’s minds with scientific insight into why humans have loved music, continue to love it, and yet have never sent it flowers. Between his theories, the Swasey Chapel lends the sonic examples a historical weight that comes with standing strong for nine decades.<p>
Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra
Since its inception in 2005, the Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra has permeated surrounding communities with everything from classical music to bluegrass. Renaissance-era chamber music, pops concerts, and even a few visiting rock bands have helped the orchestra’s 75 musicians on their mission. Although some concerts incorporate the knowledge of guest experts, when it comes to educating the area in musical greatness, the orchestra’s youth symphony and chamber strings ensemble take center stage, bolstering the skills and appreciation of wee ones.
