The Tony-winning Fiddler on the Roof transports viewers to early 20th-century Russia, presenting the travails of the Jewish inhabitants of the town of Anatevka as they struggle with love, religious persecution, and weak water pressure in their homes. When a poor milkman’s daughters wish to pick out their own husbands, their father finds he must make a choice between his children’s happiness and the beloved traditions that separate their community from the outside world. Accompanied by dance numbers, well-known songs such as “Tradition” and “If I Were a Rich Man” propel the plot as audiences experience joy, sadness, and closure once the fiddler finally retrieves his frisbee from the rooftop.
