The Scouting Report
As the AHL’s 2012 Calder Cup champions, the Norfolk Admirals closed the last season with a record-shattering 28 straight regular-season wins, the most in the history of professional hockey. In the offseason, the Admirals switched their NHL affiliate from Tampa Bay to the Anaheim Ducks, transforming the entire roster in the process. The switch-up hasn’t shaken the Admirals’ pursuit of back-to-back titles, though. Through eight games, the team sits atop the Eastern Conference’s East Division, propelled to victory in part by center Peter Holland’s five goals in the eight-game span. Frederik Andersen and Igor Bobkov have split equal time in the net this season, protecting the goal as if it contained a baby balanced on a Jenga tower.
The Norfolk Admirals joined the AHL as an expansion team in the 2000–01 season. After qualifying for the playoffs nearly every season, the team’s historic 2011–12 campaign pushed them over the top and brought home their first Calder Cup. That year, the Admirals closed the season on a 28-game winning streak, the longest in the history of professional hockey since 1975, when brick walls were deemed ineligible to be goalies. Now an affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, the Admirals still take to the ice at Norfolk Scope Arena and face off before crowds of up to 8,700 devout fans.
Due to security restrictions, G-Passes must be printed out and presented in person at the event. They cannot be redeemed through Groupon's mobile app.
