New York Cosmos Soccer
The Cosmos’ 2016 championship run started with a first place finish atop the regular season table and concluded with a third championship in four years. This season could unfold in similar fashion, especially considering many of the core players have returned, including standout goalie Jimmy Maurer and team captain Carlos Mendes. With the strong new additions of Amauri, Juan Guerra, Irvin Herrera, and Javi Marquez the Cosmos offense, which netted 59 goals last season—leading the league, will look to make a push for its third NASL Championship in a row and fourth in five years. The Cosmos play their home games at MCU Park in Coney Island.

About New York Cosmos
On June 17, 1985—after winning five North American League Soccer championships bringing some of soccer's biggest names to the United States—the New York Cosmos played their last game in front of more than 8,500 fans at Giants Stadium. Nearly three decades of silence followed. But in 2013, the club was revived, much to the delight of the city's fans and growing number of cobweb-covered soccer balls. That year, the Cosmos returned to the pitch and promptly re-established themselves as one of the NASL's elite teams, capturing their sixth Soccer Bowl with a 1-0 victory over the Atlanta Silverbacks.
