Grand Prix du Canada 2013
The seventh stop of the globe-tracing 2013 Formula 1 championship series, the Grand Prix du Canada showcases the top drivers around the world at the Circuit Gilles–Villeneuve. Currently standing atop the driver standings, German wunderkind Sebastian Vettel continues to make history after winning consecutive World Driver’s championships in 2010, 2011, and 2012—the youngest wheelman to accomplish that feat. In the 70-lap main event, which kicks off at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Vettel faces a field of worthy adversaries including Finnish speed demon Rimi Kaikkonen as they attempt to jam potatoes into his tailpipe.
Prior to Sunday’s main event, the track at Grand Prix du Canada rumbles under the squealing tires of Porsche GT3s, Ferraris, and other chrome steeds in a bumper-to-bumper schedule of exhibition races. From their perch on the grandstands, spectators can watch drivers navigate the track’s tricky turns and curves from as close a range as possible without disguising themselves as dashboard bobbleheads.
