Now in its 11th anniversary season, Oklahoma City Repertory Theatre skewers politics in the midst of election season with David Mamet's presidential farce, November. Following the travails of president Charles Smith, Mamet's script delves into politics' corruption, cynicism, and semi-legal dealings. With plummeting poll numbers just days before he’s up for reelection, Smith must contend with greasy lawyers, conniving pork-industry lobbyists, and irate Native Americans, all while trying to boost himself to victory by whatever means necessary. Featuring Mamet's famously tight dialogue, the show calls attention to a campaign’s frequent misuse of language, with the New York Times spotlighting Smith's speechwriter as full of the "seductive spiel that Americans can't help falling for during campaign season." Tucked inside Civic Center Music Hall, the CitySpace Theatre’s intimate, black-box setup keeps audiences close to the play’s unabashed mudslinging.
