Oktoberfest
America’s oldest operating brewery, Yuengling, pairs with the arts-and-culture nonprofit group ArtsQuest to host an authentic Oktoberfest that toasts to Deutschland heritage with German food, beer, and music. Admission to the festival endows ticketholders with access to all of the day’s activities, such as the bier-band-led “Prost-cession” stroll, the brand-new beer-barrel decorating competition, dachshund races, and the annual running of the schnitzels.
After reveling in Bavarian culture, Oktoberfesters can visit the Yuengling Festhalle tent to sup from a stately sprawl of traditional German dishes available for purchase, such as cheese soup, potato pancakes, and grilled cornish hen. Live polka, funk, and rock fills the air each evening, and visitors can watch rabblerousing activities such as the barrel-roll competition and beer-stein races or fan the flames of their inner competitor ($5/person entry for each activity).
