Michael Londra’s Celtic Yuletide
Although he’s been hailed as one of the best Irish singers of our time, the talent of Michael Londra’s tenor overrides that regional qualifier. First seen in the states while leading Riverdance’s Broadway reign, Londra quickly entered the ranks of stars such as Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli, and Sarah Brightman as his powerful bellow bowled over international audiences. He’s since earned two Emmy nominations for his hit PBS special, Beyond Celtic, recorded a version of “Danny Boy” that’s been viewed on YouTube more than 7 million times, and now, turns his vocal mistletoe to the holiday season with Celtic Yuletide. Weaving stories of his homeland with Gaelic interpretations of fabled Christmas carols, he elevates ditties such as “The First Noel” and “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” into the melodies of the sirens, also making room for “Beyond the Star,” a carol of his own. Joining Londra is a merry band of fiddlers, pipers, and Irish dancers, all of whom help him transform the theater into an indoor version of Dublin.
