Parsons Dance

Parsons Dance's Caught

100 leaps in six minutes. That’s what’s required of the solo dancer in Caught, which uses strobe lights to make gravity irrelevant and a dark stage less spooky. Each time the strobe light slices through the darkness, it appears the dancer is floating, then flying, several feet above the stage. The signature piece of Parsons Dance artistic director David Parsons has taken on a life of its own in the three decades since its conception, and audiences on this tour get a rare chance to see it performed by the company that originated it. The visual illusion, meditative music, and intense muscularity are typical of Parsons Dance’s work and show up in different ways throughout the program.

Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts

Built in 1928, Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts dazzles patrons with an ornate art-deco façade and lush Spanish Renaissance interior. Elegant columns, glittering chandeliers, and vibrant geometric patterns create a palatial atmosphere in the lobby. The auditorium’s intimately arranged velvet seats leave every viewer within 70 feet of the stage, eliminating the need for binoculars or drawn-out games of telephone describing the onstage action.
