The Scouting Report
When Penn plays Drexel on December 28—after facing a tough schedule that includes 2016 NCAA champs Villanova—Head Coach Steve Donahue will be facing off against his own former assistant in Zach Spiker. As the Drexel Dragons’ new head coach, Spiker was Donahue’s assistant at Cornell. After battling the Dragons, the Quakers will take on the MAAC’s Fairfield Stags, who have jumped to an early lead at the top of their conference standings.
The Penn Quakers' many traditions go hand-in-hand with its storied athletics program. Perhaps no tradition is more important than the school's colors, blue and red, which today unite men's and women's teams across a couple dozen different sports. The football team has enjoyed plenty of glory—especially since the Ivy League's formation during the 1950s—but success has followed the school on the wrestling mat, in the swimming pool, and even on the fencing piste.
