The Fine Print
About Phoenix Mercury
As one of the WNBA's eight charter franchises, the Phoenix Mercury have brought some of the league's biggest stars to the valley over the years. In 2004, the Mercury selected Diana Taurasi with the first overall pick. Two years later, they snagged Cappie Pondexter. Those two selections paid huge dividends in 2007 as the team claimed its first-ever WNBA championship. But perhaps the Mercury's biggest acquisition didn't come until April 2013, when they selected Baylor University's Brittney Griner. Like with Taurasi and Pondexter before her, the Mercury figure to lean on Griner for years to come in hopes of capturing more WNBA titles.
