Pinkie & Blue
Museums can be magical places—especially during a blue moon. One such night, when the lunar light falls upon two paintings, the subjects within come to life and embark upon an adventure that’s limited only by the imagination. Pinkie, the young girl sporting the rose-hued bonnet in Thomas Lawrence’s painting of the same name, steps out of her frame alongside The Blue Boy, the dapper young man from Thomas Gainsborough’s masterpiece. Once away from their canvases, the two know no bounds. They dive into nearby paintings, taking a hot-air balloon ride above the sleepy village of Van Gogh’s Starry Night, walking the tightrope in Chagall’s Circus, and pirouetting alongside the ballerinas of Degas’s Dance Rehearsal. But with so much fun to be had, will Pinkie and Blue make it back to their own frames before sun up?
Artisan Center Theater
Like many successful recipes and most notable food critics, Artisan Center Theater was born in a dining room. In 2002 the founders—all volunteers—staged their first show, Steel Magnolias, at an Italian restaurant. It was so successful that it heralded the establishment of regular programming, a move into a new theater space, and the hiring of a full-time staff. After several more moves, the company stuck with its food theme and found a permanent home inside a former pizzeria.
Each year, Artisan rewards audiences with a full lineup of musicals and classic plays on three stages—the Main Stage, the Second Stage, and the Children's Theater. In that last space, guests of all ages can immerse themselves inside the worlds of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Miracle Worker, and Charlotte's Web while nurturing the seeds of appreciation in stage craft. And all three arms of the theater keep their focus on the community by regularly holding auditions to fill their key roles.
