Live music is a huge improvement on canned music, which takes up valuable pantry space and often spoils into noxious free jazz. Keep it fresh with this GrouponLive deal to see Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Live in Concert at Butler University's Clowes Memorial Hall. For $60, you get two tickets for main-floor or second-terrace seating on Saturday, March 24, at 8 p.m. (a $130.60 value, including all Ticketmaster fees). Seating will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, and Groupon customers will receive the best seating available at the time of redemption. Doors open at 7 p.m.
The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra fills Clowes Memorial Hall to the brim with a visual and aural concoction that breathes new life into Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean while uniting music and movie enthusiasts. Whirling a peg leg instead of a baton, conductor Erik Ochsner captains the ensemble as notes sync scene-for-scene with the series' first film, which will be projected onto a large screen perched above the stage. Prior to the performance, a meticulous editing process makes sure to vacuum each musical crumb from the film's fibers, leaving behind perfectly intact dialogue to accompany the live score. The evening's entertainment hybrid receives an extra dose of soul from an all-male chorus, who take turns belting out notes and filling in any stage leaks with wads of bubblegum.
Clowes Memorial Hall
For the late Dr. George Henry Alexander Clowes, the most important things in life were science and the arts. The good doctor wanted to share this devotion with the Indianapolis community, so he devised and funded Clowes Memorial Hall at Butler University. Completed in 1963, the hall shares Butler's gorgeous aesthetic with its arching stone façade and lush crimson interior, which has room for over 2,000 patrons. In addition to major touring productions and public speakers, Clowes Memorial Hall is also the home of the Indianapolis Opera, the Butler Ballet, and the Indy 500.
