The Scouting Report
For the first time ever, the SDCCU Poinsettia Bowl will have an afternoon kickoff. Just two days before Christmas—and just one day before Santa runs his reindeer through drills on Qualcomm Stadium’s field—the game will pit the Mountain West’s Boise St. Broncos against the MAC’s Northern Illinois Huskies in what figures to be a high-scoring matchup.
This season, the Broncos averaged 38 points per game behind running back Jeremy McNichols. The sophomore cemented his place among college football’s top backs by scoring 18 touchdowns—the fourth most in the country. Not to be outdone, the Huskies counter with some offensive firepower of their own, largely thanks to first-team All-MAC running back Joel Bouagnon, who played a key role in NIU’s midseason six-game winning streak. Once the explosiveness on the field subsides, a postgame show dubbed Stadium Spectacular 2015 will punctuate the day’s festivities with some actual fireworks.
SDCCU Poinsettia Bowl
Since its inception in 2005, the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl has showcased some of college football's finest in late-December showdowns. The gridiron institution has produced several thrilling games, including TCU's 17–16 victory over Boise State in 2008 and Utah's 35–32 triumph over Navy in 2007.
