The Pondamonium outdoor music concert brings a lineup of national headliners into the cozy confines of the Madison Mallards’ baseball stadium, affectionately known as The Duck Pond. Garbage recently ended a seven-year hiatus, now ready to take the stage. Charismatic lead singer Shirley Manson reunites with her band mates, including Madison native Butch Vig, the band’s drummer and famed producer of Nirvana’s Nevermind. Tracks such as “Stupid Girl” propelled the band’s album sales past the 13 million mark in the ’90s. And in the years since, the act’s alt-rock stylings have evolved evermore, resulting in the “spiky, stylish pop” that pulsates on this year’s Not Your Kind of People.
After touring overseas in July—showering Europeans with confetti, balloons, and the rays of astral light shows—The Flaming Lips return stateside with their signature brand of psych-rock. The group’s celebrated 2002 album, Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots, encapsulates a sound layered with rock harmonies and vivid imagery, which the band famously manifests on stage in the form of animal costumes, cartoonish accessories, and giant plastic balls that could make any crowd-surfing hamster jealous.
Dee Dee leads the all-girl quartet Dum Dum Girls. Seasoned with two albums and two headlining tours, the group has deepened their harmonies and tightened their arrangements while still clinging tightly to their “signature blend of girl-gang eyeliner punk.” The group will be shredding tracks off their latest effort, Only in Dreams.
