Potted Sherlock

In the Olivier Award–nominated Potted Potter, Dan Clarkson and Jeff Turner compressed all seven Harry Potter tomes into 70 minutes of madcap laughs. But apparently that pacing wasn’t frenetic enough. In their latest, Potted Sherlock, they’ve given themselves a mere 80 minutes to cover all 60 cases solved by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famed detective, paying particular attention to such classics as The Sign of the Four and A Study in Scarlet. To take on this nearly impossible feat, the duo has, for the first time, added a third to their show: Lizzie Wort, who steps into the shoes of a scant 15 characters or so. Together they’ll be grappling with poisonous snakes, Victorian social mores, narrative inconsistencies, 19th-century discriminations, and a crazy amount of hats while giving sly nods to the modern interpretations portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. And their effort has already paid off: the family-friendly romp received a five-star review from The List, which praised the show’s “cleverness and wit” and success “over a seemingly impossible task.”
