A Safe Bet for Fun at Preakness Stakes
Arrival and Tailgating: First post is at 10:30 a.m., but officials recommend arriving early to Pimlico to park and get situated; the infield gates open at 8 a.m, and since it’s general admission, early arrival will help you secure a nice spot. If you plan on tailgating, however, aim for Preakness Way Lot 4, which is the only designated tailgate area.
Restaurants, concessions, and BYO-Picnic: Pimlico features concessions throughout the infield and facility. There are also two restaurants and a sports bar, though tables might be scarce on Preakness days. Guests can bring their own picnic food, though it’s important to pack them in clear see-through plastic containers in accordance with policy: coolers, backpacks, and thermoses are prohibited. Betting: Betting age is 18. Make sure you know your wager before stepping up to a mutuel window, as there will be a line of people all trying to place bets before the race begins. See this wagering 101 guide if you need to brush up on wagering terms, odds, and betting etiquette.
