What You’ll Do
Sequin-spangled genius; tabloid-featured hack; feminist icon—the world has a lot of opinions on Britney Spears. Perhaps its most ardent opinions come from self-described “Brit fanatic” Rachel Golberg, a pop-culture aficionado who will expound upon the causes, effects, and meaning of Spears’ fame. Over the course of 90 minutes, you’ll enjoy themed snacks as Rachel puts Britney’s career into a broader social context, training an incisive eye on the trajectory, cultural reverberations, and infamous red jumpsuits of the Princess of Pop.
You’ll snack on cheekily named treats like Gimme S’mores and Baby One More Thyme crackers.
The multimedia presentation, including pictures and video, will chronicle the entirety of Britney’s career—from the Mickey Mouse Club to plaid skirt to cropped locks to Vegas—through the lens of two compelling questions: Why should Spears be considered a feminist icon? And Why is she so compelling to so many people?
With a fandom that’s been cultivated since elementary school, one might say Rachel has spent her whole life preparing for this course.
Britney Spears Scholar
As a Spears scholar, Rachel has not only taught classes and listened to Circus on repeat, but she’s also hosted multi-hour Britney brackets that rank the Princess of Pop’s songs and videos. When the impassioned lecture winds down, Rachel will return her incisive perspective and comic flair to the realm of freelance writing. She’s been published by the likes of Random House, XOJane, and Engadget.
