The collective houses more than 90 members who perform a series of war-based vignettes, ranging from the light-hearted “Military Dance” to the more somber “Ogonek (Blue Light),” which describes the feelings of a young girl after her pet bloodhound runs away to join the army. For the climatic “Holiday On the Don River Dance,” deft dancers and skilled musicians combine their talents to create a spectacular finale, wrought with complex choral arrangements and choreography. The Frank Lloyd Wright–designed Marin Center sends showgoers to and from the 1,960-seat Memorial Auditorium amid leaping arches and soaring atria.
