River North Dance Chicago’s “Love Is…” fosters romantic revelry with two world-premiere pieces performed by a troupe of dancers who have earned praise from the Chicago Tribune. The program kicks off with the brand-new Contact-Me, the first U.S.-commissioned work from Italian choreographer Mauro Astolfi, who devised the act’s athletic, contemporary moves and incorporation of tin-can telephones. Chicago Children’s Choir artistic director Josephine Lee takes the stage during the debut of The Good Goodbyes, performing her own musical score as dancers glide across the set as gracefully as a swan during its debutante ball. Four other pieces round out the show’s line-up, including company artistic director Frank Chaves’s Sentir em Nós, a male-female duet that illustrates the complexities of a turbulent love affair with crimson drapes, flowing costumes, and tear-stained pliés.

Audience members absorb dance mastery inside the Harris Theater’s modern, elegant digs, replete with concessions and seating for up to 609 patrons. Natural light pours in through towering walls of windows, illuminating eclectic artwork and theatergoers’ moustaches in multilevel lobby areas.
