About Rochester Rhinos
2016 brought in a slew of changes to the Rochester Rhinos organization. New owners, a new video board, new turf, and upgraded concessions are sure to usher in a new experience for fans. As the only lower-division team ever to win the US Open Cup since the inception of the MLS, the Rhinos lay claim to one of the greatest Cinderella stories in American soccer history. During the legendary summer of 1999, the Rhinos pulled out four consecutive upsets against MLS powerhouses to hoist the Dewar Cup. Along the way, they toppled the defending tournament champs, the Chicago Fire, and shut down the Dallas Burn in a 2-1 overtime nail-biter in front of 10,700 fans on their home turf. Today, the team continues to thrill home crowds at Rhinos Stadium with a love of soccer so passionate that the players even refuse to use their hands for high fives. Returning players from the 2015 championship team include captain Tony Walls, defender Vasileios Apostolopoulos, midfielder Mike Garzi, and forwards Steevan Dos Santos, Asani Samuels, and Christian Volesky.
