Relegated to the sidelines by the NHL lockout, more than 30 members of the NHL Players Association will get a chance to reawaken their dormant puck-handling skills at Rock Out The Lockout’s NHLPA Charity Hockey Game. Spearheaded by NHL veteran trio Steve Ott, Dan Cleary, and Shawn Horcoff, the game will feature a standard format of three 20-minute periods, during which hockey-starved spectators can drool over every board-shaking check, twine-tickling shot, and knee-buckling deke as the WFCU Centre’s zamboni celebrates its return to relevance.
At the end of the game, winners of a random drawing will depart with a signed, game-worn jersey from one of the players, which they can mount on their wall or wear underneath their work clothes for the rest of their lives. Proceeds from the game will benefit SPARKLES From Above, a nonprofit organization that helps children in need of cancer treatment by purchasing much-needed equipment and supplies for Windsor’s Met Hospital.
