Reliving America's frontier days has been a trying task ever since Hollywood Westerns fell out of vogue and your 10-gallon hat was ruined by that 10-gallon guacamole recipe. Go west with this GrouponLive deal to a rodeo, presented by the Utah National Guard at the Salt Lake County Equestrian Center in South Jordan. Choose between the following ticketing options:

  • For $8, you get general admission for two (a $16 value).
  • For $15, you get general admission for four (a $32 value).

For each option, choose from the following rodeos:

  • The Utah National Guard presents the Memorial Rodeo on Friday, August 31, or Saturday, September 1, at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are valid for one day.
  • The Utah National Guard presents Championship Bull Riding on Monday, September 3, at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.

The Utah National Guard fills the ring of the Salt Lake County Equestrian Center with three days of competitions that feature riders of several different kinds of livestock over Labor Day weekend. On August 31 and September 1, cowboys and girls compete for entry into the Rocky Mountain Professional Rodeo Association’s year-end finals. Steer wrestlers try to take down their bovine opponents in submission grips, and bull riders perch atop bucking behemoths, clinging for dear life as their mounts try to throw off their riders and impress dance-show talent scouts in the audience. Riders guide their horses in high-speed slaloms in barrel races, and bareback riders show off their powerful thighs and disdain for man's saddles. On September 3, bull riders take center stage to compete for glory.

Marie K. · September 5, 2012
The long waits in between different segments of the rodeo need to be shortened. It seemed really unorganized, but I still enjoyed it. Fix that and it will be a great rodeo.
