The Scouting Report

With the 2015 season imminent, the Bulldogs return to the gridiron to clash with Southern Conference foes. Last year’s 7-4 effort led to some memorable victories, including a 45-0 drubbing of Furman followed immediately by a 55-0 win against Concordia College. This year’s squad hopes to have similar luck keeping opponents off the scoreboard and meandering hot-dog vendors off the field.

Samford Bulldogs

The history of Samford University Athletics dates so far back that it actually precedes the Samford University name. Its football team first took the field in 1902, back when the school was known as Howard College and every football was still a live pig. Since then, its programs have expanded dramatically—as have its successes. On the basketball court, the men’s team appeared in consecutive NCAA Tournaments in 1999 and 2000, and the women’s team achieved the same feat in 2011 and 2012. Beyond competing in the NCAA’s Southern Conference, the Bulldogs occasionally face—and defeat—intrastate titans such as Auburn and Alabama.
