The Scouting Report
As the 2012 Major League Baseball season approaches its halfway point, the Padres face off against the AL’s Mariners before welcoming a familiar NL foe, the Reds, onto the Petco Park diamond. Fully recovered from a knee injury that kept him off the field and out of pogo-stick competitions through April and most of May, slugger Carlos Quentin has returned to the lineup with a vengeance, crushing six home runs and compiling a .404 batting average in his first 16 games. On the mound, starting pitchers Edinson Volquez and Anthony Bass jockey for the team lead in strikeouts, and closer Huston Street seals victories with a punctuating pop of the catcher’s mitt.
