What You'll Do
For four centuries, prior to automated machine printers and copiers, the letterpress was the go-to for communicating via the printed word. Take part in the artisanal revival of this art form with Sara McNally, the founder of the printing shop Constellation & Co., as you tour the studio and learn about the working letterpress. Once you’ve seen the space and tied your apron, you’ll roll up your sleeves to set the antique wood type and printer’s blocks by hand, design your own poster, and ink away using a 150-year-old iron hand press.

Learn about the history of the industry and the revival of the art form from a letterpress mastermind at her boutique
Owner, Constellation & Co.
When Sara McNally was in design school, she discovered her calling through the pages of a book detailing printing and the Industrial Revolution. Along with her husband, Sara refurbished a 1921 platen press and opened Constellation & Co., a boutique letterpress and print shop. Noted for its dedication to restoring and preserving artifacts from the history of printing, their workshop has been featured in The Seattle Times and on blogs like Martha Stewart Weddings.
