The Scouting Report
This Sunday, the week-long Bill Walton Basketball Festival will culminate with the first-ever college basketball game at Petco Park. That afternoon, the outdoor court—which finally sprouted in the park’s infield after months of water and sunshine—will host a showdown between the San Diego State Aztecs and University of San Diego Toreros. The Aztecs enter this match-up as one of the country’s most consistent teams over the past decade: they’ve made six straight trips to the NCAA Tournament, and they’ve planted their flag atop the Mountain West standings in back-to-back seasons.
Through the first month of the season, freshman guard Jeremy Hemsley has stepped up to lead the Aztecs with 13 points and three assists per game, all while shooting 50% from the field. For the Toreros, senior guard Duda Sanadze has been just as effective, racking up 13 points and five rebounds per game.
