The Scouting Report
On November 2, Seattle Sounders FC marches forward into a home confrontation against the Portland Timbers in the MLS Cup’s Western Conference semifinals. This season marks Seattle’s fifth consecutive playoff appearance, the second-longest current streak in the MLS behind Real Salt Lake. Though the Timbers enter this match as the higher seed, Seattle has excelled at home in 2013. During the regular season, they scored 29 of their 42 total points at CenturyLink Field, showing fans that they feel comfortable at home even without wearing their pajamas as their uniforms.
Seattle Sounders FC
Expansion teams often experience growing pains, spinning their wheels before building the talent and fan support needed to claw their way out of their league’s basement. Apparently, no one shared this narrative with the Seattle Sounders. Upon entering the MLS in 2009, the Sounders wasted no time establishing themselves as one of the League’s most dominant programs, reaching the playoffs five years in a row and seizing three straight U.S. Open Cups, all without hiring aliens to steal Pele’s life force. The Sounders have also accomplished the impressive feat of selling out every single home game at CenturyLink Field in the five years since the team’s inception.
