Though My Morning Jacket’s brand of roots-infused psychedelia has garnered critical acclaim and a devoted fan base, its dream job sadly evaded the group: supporting a tour of the fictional Muppet band Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem. MMJ was slated to write and perform new Mayhem songs live while animatronic versions of Dr. Teeth, Floyd Pepper, Janice, Zoot, and Animal played the band members onstage. When the project fell through, the band wiped away its felt tears and soldiered on, putting two of the tunes on its most recent album, Circuital, which debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200.

The band’s current tour, the Spontaneous Curation Series, encourages Twitter fans to vote for the songs they want on the set list, ensuring the appearance of country-baked jams from earlier records as well as synthesized cuts from later, spacier albums such as Z and Evil Urges. Though the nature of the series means that no two shows are the same, fans can expect to hear one or both parts of the siren-warped epic “Touch Me I’m Going to Scream,” and the heated guitar riffs of “One Big Holiday.” Seattle hip-hop duo Shabazz Palaces opens the evening with asymmetric beats and cutting lyrics that sound as though they were delivered through the wind of a turbine blade.

Customer Reviews

Brought my 2 teenage boys to the concert and they loved it. Moore Theater was a great place for AWOLNATION & Meg Myers. Great acoustics and seats. AWONATION puts on a fantastic concert! Loved it! First time I've heard Meg Myers and she nailed it. I would see her again.
