Adapted from the 1991 movie of the same title, Dogfight weaves an unconventional love story between a departing marine and a young waitress on the eve of a small but growing conflict in Southeast Asia. Participating in a cruel game with his friends on a final night of debauchery in the States, Corporal Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, an awkward and idealistic waitress he enlists to win a cruel bet with his fellow recruits. Their encounter leads him on a journey of discovering the meaning of compassion. Freshly written songs and engaging choreography enliven the show with theatrical pizzazz, and Tony-winning director Joe Mantello draws out the subtlest emotions of his two young leads.
Originally founded in 1979 to give a second chance to plays suffering from abbreviated runs, Second Stage Theatre has grown into one of Off-Broadway's most distinguished companies. During the past three decades, the organization's talented artists have raked in dozens of prestigious awards through innovative staging techniques.
