The world can be a dangerous place for a woman alone—so, in Twelfth Night, Viola decides it’s safer to be a man. Separated from her twin brother by a shipwreck and washed up on the shores of an unfamiliar country, Viola puts on some pants and plays the role of the dutiful page to a handsome duke. Suddenly the courageous young woman finds herself at the heart of a love triangle, unable to reveal her identity—or even her gender—to either the man she loves or the woman whose heart she has unintentionally stolen. Just when the confusion seems at its peak, a certain long-lost twin emerges from the sea, sending the forlorn lovers into a whirlwind of romance, confusion, and silly-looking pants.
One of the Bard’s best-loved comedies, Twelfth Night (Shakespeare’s alternate title: What You Will) contains some of the canon’s most memorable characters, from the passionate Olivia and the lovelorn Viola to the devious Sir Toby Belch and poor, foolish Malvolio—upon whom greatness has most certainly not been thrust. It’s no surprise, then, that the play has attracted some of the world’s finest actors over the years. Casts of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s many productions of the play have included Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Diana Rigg, and Ian Holm, while a Helena Bonham Carter–fronted film version snagged Imelda Staunton and Ben Kingsley.

About Gamut Theatre Group
From improv comedy to kids' shows to classic dramas, the Gamut Theatre Group offers a veritable feast of theater for kids and grown-ups alike. The Popcorn Hat Players, a team of actors and scriptwriters who produce original versions of classic children's stories with minimal scenery and absolutely no lengthy litigation scenes, complements the dramatic side, the Harrisburg Shakespeare Company, a troupe of seven artists who supplement the works of the Bard with similar works that are Shakespearean in content if not in authorship.
Meanwhile, the in-house comedy troupe T.M.I. specializes in long- and short-form, character-driven improv, and Stage Door productions have included radio theatre, staged readings, development of original works by local playwrights, providing theatrical experiences to the greater Harrisburg area.
