Shaping Sound

Dance genres collide and harmonize in Shaping Sound, a high-energy live performance from four Emmy-nominated choreographers. Television viewers will know Travis Wall, Nick Lazzarini, Teddy Forance, and Kyle Robinson for their contributions to Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, and All the Right Moves. On stage, the dance-masters’ sharp, contemporary viewpoints are expressed by a professional company who leap and twist through pieces that range from the crisply robotic to the dreamily romantic.

Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center

Nearly a century ago, the Hippodrome opened as a combination movie palace and vaudeville theater, spending more than 70 years hosting big names such as Bob Hope and Frank Sinatra. Following a double-decade period of slow business and bad hairstyles, the Hippodrome closed in 1990. Now, however, after an exhaustive restoration project that reanimated the theater’s chandelier-lit arches, the mural above the proscenium stage, and the grand-theater boxes that hark back to opera’s heyday, the Hippodrome reopens to the delight of Baltimore’s cultural landscape.
