What You’ll Do
You don’t have to be a hopeless romantic to view Valentine’s Day as a respite from the gray chill of winter. This two-hour workshop, held on February 13 and 14, fills participants with warm, fuzzy feelings as they use a hot flame to manipulate glass into colorful, heart-shaped paperweights. Glass artist Sharon Gilbert guides students every step of the way, and provides them with all the necessary tools to create a unique piece of glass art, which they can choose to keep or gift to their Valentine.
Create Your Own Glass Heart Paperweight
You’ll use a five-foot blowpipe to shape your piece with two colors of glass.
Take the Trinket Home
After allowing the paperweight to cool overnight, you can pick it up within the week.
Owner and Designer for Talisman Glass
Roughly two decades ago, Sharon Gilbert attended a glassblowing class and saw something that would forever change her life: an artist who used fire and sand the way others used a brush and paint. In the years since, she’s mastered the craft and became the owner of Chicago’s Talisman Glass. There, she teaches private and group glassblowing and fusing classes—that is, when she’s not being profiled for Bon Appetit, the Huffington Post, and the Chicago Tribune.
