What You'll Get
Without dance, people could only hum along to “Macarena,” and Jane Austen characters would be forced to say what was really on their minds. Let movements speak with today’s Groupon to “Shumka at 50” performed at the Chrysler Theatre on February 21 at 7:30 p.m. Choose between the following options:
- For $30, you get two general-admission tickets (a $59.90 value).
- For $55, you get four general-admission tickets (a $119.80 value).<p>
Doors open at 7:00 p.m. Tickets will be available at the box office, and seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Celebrating half a century of performance history, “Shumka at 50” fuses folk dance with modern movements to weave colourful, up-tempo visual tapestries during a one-night-only stand at the 1,200 seat Chrysler Theatre. Dancers robed in soft flowing garments glide across the stage as they flaunt the rules of gravity with artful jumps, limber lunges, and paper airplanes that never land. Routines set to original music and choreography warm up the stage with slender steps, as men and women back flip and embrace to the stringed peals of traditional Ukrainian violin music. In the style of traditional Kozachok dancing, squatting dancers kick their legs with rhythmic intensity, displaying delicate lower-body strength and creating the illusion that they are sitting on invisible chairs.
