What You’ll Do
Rods, reels, lines, and other tools of the fly-fishing trade pack every wall inside Gig Harbor Fly Shop, creating a workshop setting that should inspire plenty of fly-fishing creativity. Once attendees take their places around a long table, fly-fishing author and instructor Skip Morris demonstrates the basic skills required to tie fishing flies. He then walks around the table and helps each person make at least two flies described in his booklet, Learn to Tie Flies.
Introduction to Fly-Tying
Skip covers the basic techniques of tying a simple fly, clearly demonstrating each necessary step.
Skip helps you and fellow participants tie a “nymph” fly and a “streamer” fly, both great for trout fishing (the streamer can catch many other fish as well).
Attendees can also purchase a copy of Skip’s booklet, Learn to Tie Flies, which the author will happily sign.
Fly-Fishing Author and Instructor
Skip Morris had a hard time controlling himself as a kid, at least when it came to fishing. Any time he would see a fish—even if it was just in a decorative pond—he would begin plotting the best way to catch it. He was eventually able to make an entire living out of fly-fishing, and he has written hundreds of books and articles on the subject.
