What You'll Get

Although not one of the five traditional senses, a sense of humor is the only thing that allows humans to answer knock-knocks at the door. You’re there with this deal to see Jim Breuer’s Heavy Metal Comedy Show on the Main Stage at Crocodile Rock Cafe. For $15, you get one general-admission ticket for Friday, June 8, at 9 p.m. (up to a $29.35 value, including fees). Doors open at 8 p.m.

According to Greek and Roman mythology, goatmen used to be everywhere, playing mischievous pranks and rocking out on the panflute. But not until Jim Breuer had a goatman, or in this case, Goat Boy, worked as an MTV VJ. This bleating, cackling character is one of Breuer’s more famous creations, which he brought to life during his four-year tenure on Saturday Night Live. Then, capitalizing on his newfound celebrity, hooded eyelids, and malfunctioning cupcake oven, the Long Island–bred comic went on to star beside Dave Chappelle in the cult-classic movie Half Baked.

For his “Heavy Metal Comedy Tour,” Breuer returns to his roots, reflecting on his life’s varied roles as a father, a husband, and a son. His material cuts across multigenerational lines, peppering standup with songs and impersonations for everyone in the family. After expertly parroting the incoherent vernacular of Ozzy Osbourne, he may crank out a few children’s songs set to the hard-rock key of AC/DC or front a few tunes with the aid of his band. Drawing from his youthful days spent partying and his current days spent familying, his standup material, like his recent book, leaves audiences rolling in the aisles and equipped with plenty of stories they can pass off as their own when meeting the in-laws.
