A century ago, Wildwood, New Jersey grew out of its borough britches and was officially deemed a city. Later, in 1954, Bill Haley & His Comets premiered the musical milestone “Rock Around the Clock” at the sunny resort town, giving Wildwood the right to deem itself “the birthplace of rock and roll.” Naturally, and very fittingly, the city is celebrating its centennial with Wild 100, a blowout of summertime feel-good music featuring more than a dozen of today’s popular pop acts.

Headlining group Hot Chelle Rae is riding hot with more buzz than a swarm of hornets carrying a malfunctioning refrigerator. Fresh from touring with Demi Lovato, the fetching Nashville quartet sweet-talks the ears with good-time odes such as “I Like It Like That” and the double-platinum single “Tonight Tonight.” Sixteen-year-old Texas heartthrob and YouTube sensation Austin Mahone also takes the stage, eliciting dolphin-pitched squeals as he supports hits such as “Say Somethin'” with classy choreography and come-hither vocals.

Other youthful acts include The Ready Set, a one-man discotheque who engages feet with electropop ditties such as “Love Like Woe” and “Give Me Your Hand (Best Song Ever).” Dallas pop punkers Forever The Sickest Kids bring excess decibels with high-octane rockers such as “Whoa Oh,” and Outasight makes sonic sandwiches out of indie pop, hip-hop, funk, and boysenberry jam. As a special highlight to the sun-drenched pop extravaganza, Internet sensation Rebecca Black performs viral smashes such as “Sing It,” “My Moment,” and the immortal hit “Friday.”
