Boyd Tinsley is best known for the jaw-dropping violin antics and manic stage energy he brings to the Dave Matthews Band. Proving that his talents extend beyond the bow, Tinsley has ventured into the territory of filmmaking with his full-length debut, Faces in the Mirror. Described by Tinsley as a “modern-day silent picture,” the independent movie tells a bittersweet tale of a man attending his estranged father’s funeral. Inspired by Hitchcock’s use of sound in films such as Psycho, Tinsley crafted his film without a script and little dialogue, allowing the music to do a majority of the storytelling. Featuring a percussion-heavy soundtrack performed by Tinsley and a hand-selected group of musician cohorts, the mostly improvised drama stirs emotions with its soaring score and lead performance from actor Ryan Orr.
For this special screening at the historic Moore Theatre, Tinsley introduces his film to the silver screen the same time it makes its online streaming debut. After the movie, Tinsley and Orr will host a Q&A session, followed by a live musical performance by Tinsley and a group of his tunesmithing peers, including The Silent Comedy and Shawn Smith from the band Brad. After the Moore Theatre festivities, VIPs are invited to hobnob with the film’s cast, crew, and stable of popular musicians at an exclusive after-party held at the stylish Empire Lounge nightclub. The party lasts until midnight and features an open bar with food from 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
