SnowBall Music Festival

  • Pretty Lights: In the Grammy-nominated A Color Map of the Sun, Pretty Lights’ Derek Vincent Smith recorded original music with the Harlem Gospel Choir and Treme Brass Band, pressed it to vinyl, then sampled and synthesized it to create an otherworldly dance album.
  • Knife Party: A side project of two members from Australia’s Pendulum, this duo builds frenetic tracks they call “seizure music.”
  • GRiZ: 21-year-old Detroit native Grant Kwiecinski combines old-school influence, technological wizardry, and a saxophone to get crowds moving without tossing snakes onto the dance floor.
  • Busta Rhymes: The gravelly voice and intricate internal rhyming of this hip-hop luminary and Leaders of the New School founder makes tracks such as “Woo-Hah!! Got You All In Check” instantly recognizable.
  • MiM0SA: To create the club-bangers on his two-volume album, Future Trill, MiM0SA builds riffs out of bit-crushed glitches and vocals smooth as cough syrup, then underscores them with bass lines that shake your soda to a fizz.
  • Yeasayer: The Brooklyn-based group blends pop, rock, Middle Eastern and African music, folk, and dub into the eclectic, psychedelic sound that made 2007’s All Hour Cymbals a hit with critics and fans alike.
  • Kill the Noise: This DJ/producer distills dubstep to its purest form with tinny highs, impenetrably heavy lows, and no respect for the boundaries of genre.
  • Afroman: The Grammy-nominated hip-hop star behind such hits as “Because I Got High,” “Colt 45,” and “Crazy Rap.”
